About the Author: Chris Lisauckis has spent his life in some of the most tornado-prone places in the United States. He was born in 1981 in Lubbock, Texas and moved to Huntsville, AL with his family in 1987. While attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Earth System Science in 2014 and a master’s Degree in Atmospheric Science in 2018. From 2018-2021, Chris taught meteorology and Earth science classes as a PhD student and lecturer at Mississippi State University. When not busy researching, teaching, forecasting, writing, or running his ancestry DNA testing business at Native-DNA.com, Chris spends time with his family and loves being outdoors. His passion for severe weather stems from a close call with an F2 tornado at Skymont Scout Reservation in Grundy County, TN on June 26, 1994. Following this experience, Chris purposed to learn as much as possible about the formation, hazards, and societal impacts of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. He has developed several severe storm forecasting techniques such as the Vortex Value - Tornado Forecasting Index, cell size tornado intensity estimation techniques, Height Discontinuity Method, Jet Models, Outbreak Potential Scale, Parameter Gradient Method, and more.
